HI Calls Eighth Rector

We are pleased to announce that we soon will be welcoming our eighth Rector to Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church. The Rev. Dr. William S. Murray IV will join us on July 2, 2018. His first Sunday with us will be July 8. Bill and his wife Jessie have two young sons, Mose and Abe, and we are thrilled that they will be joining the HI family.
Bill is recognized throughout the Episcopal Church as a skilled preacher, teacher, and writer. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Bill received his Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from The University of Memphis in 1997 with majors in International Economics and English Literature. Following his undergraduate studies, for five years he was a youth minister at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Memphis, during which time he decided to pursue ordination to the priesthood. He went to Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia receiving his Master of Divinity degree with honors in 2006, and completed his Doctor of Ministry program at Sewanee - The University of the South in May 2017. Most recently, at St. Michael and All Angels in Dallas, Texas, he gave vision and execution to formation ministries from birth to senior adults, providing special focus to the growth and vitality of children, youth and families.
But the best way to introduce Bill is to share what people say about him:
“Most importantly, he is a priest who loves his community. He has a pastor’s heart, and he is an authentic presence. He is a spiritual leader who will not hesitate to love us enough to speak truth to us, and help us explore our bounds, and beyond."
“Yet, Bill also brings us the gift of executive experience. He can navigate a call that is unique to a place like HI, which is both a spiritual and educational community.”

Mark your calendars for a new beginning for Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in July and stop by the church to welcome Bill and his family on July 8. We will have a more formal welcome for the Murrays in August. So, please stay tuned.

Bill, Jessie, Mose, and Abe are as excited to join us as we are to welcome them. A new chapter begins for Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church!
