Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church is delighted to announce that Dr. Sean Vogt will be joining us as the new Director of Music at Holy Innocents! For the past six years, Dr. Sean Vogt has served as Choirmaster at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, Mother church for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and her 800,000+ faithful. At one point in his ministry, Dr. Vogt held a full-time church music post while completing his doctorate, normally taking 3-4 years for completion, in two years including his dissertation, teaching quarter time as a teaching fellow at Michigan State University, as well as serving as Artistic Director and Conductor for a semi-professional community choir.
Dr. Vogt has consistently melded his love of church music with academia. In addition to his duties at HIEC, he will also serve as Director of Choral Activities at Clayton State University, where he will direct the CSU Concert Choir, Spivey Hall Masterworks Chorus, and teach ear training (fall) and conducting (spring). Sean has prepared choirs for orchestral performances for several national and international conductors. Prior to his appointments in Minnesota, Dr. Vogt was Director of Choral Activities (tenured) and Department Chair at Mount Marty College. Here the choral program grew from 7% to 20% campus-wide, received multiple orchestral invitations, and was a national semi-finalist for the American Prize in Music. As an administrator, Dr. Vogt successfully grew scholarships, in quantity and dollars, and was regularly sent by the Office of Advancement for fundraising. Sean also has ten years of administrative and artistic experience with non-profit/501c3 organizations.
As an organist, Dr. Vogt has performed at national conventions of the OHS (Organ Historical Society), NCCO (National Collegiate Choral Organization), ACDA (American Choral Directors Association), as well as solo performances at The National Cathedral (D.C.), St. Philip’s Cathedral (Atlanta), and several other national and international venues.
