All Church Event
Join us for the annual Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans, a cherished tradition at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church. At this service, parishioners of Scottish descent are invited to bring or wear their clan tartans to be blessed. This ceremony is a reminder of the deep connection between the Episcopal Church and Scotland.
The St. Andrew's Society will also participate, bringing several tartan banners to be processed with the stirring sounds of bagpipes and drums. This is always a powerful and moving service you won’t want to miss!
The service also allows us to reflect on our shared history. Did you know the Episcopal Church’s flag includes an X-shaped cross of St. Andrew, honoring our Scottish heritage? After the American Revolution, the first bishop of the Episcopal Church, Samuel Seabury, was consecrated in Aberdeen, Scotland, cementing a bond between our two churches that we celebrate to this day.
So whether you have Scottish ancestry or not, we can all take pride in the vibrant tartans and revel in the stirring music. Come and join us for this special celebration of tradition and heritage!
