All Church Event
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the forty days of Lent. Our observance of a Holy Lent is patterned after Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness. This is traditionally a season of repentance, fasting, and self-reflection. We do not do this alone, but as a community with the sure knowledge of God’s love and grace to us through Christ. Lent and Ash Wednesday are in no way about condemnation. This is a time in which human beings, given a pronouncement of forgiveness and absolution through Christ, can be honest with God, with ourselves, and with each other. With the terror of judgment removed, we can speak the truth.
We invite you to observe a Holy Lent this year beginning on Ash Wednesday, when one of the priests will mark the sign of the cross on your forehead with ashes made from last year’s palms waved in our procession. The powerful liturgy reminds us that we are mortal, and that we must repent. Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. We then continue with Holy Communion, a reminder of what will come at the end of our forty days of penitence.
This year we will offer a simple lunch of soup, salad and bread and hope you will join us for that time of fellowship after the 12:15 PM service. There is no need to make a reservation.
