The Rev. Ruth Pattison

Associate Rector for Liturgy, Pastoral Care, and Creative Ministries

The Rev. Ruth Lindberg Pattison is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and later earned a diploma in lay ministry from Trinity Episcopal School of Ministry. She completed her M.Div. at Candler School of Theology at Emory University and was ordained to the priesthood here in Atlanta in 1994. Ruth has served in various parishes within the Diocese of Atlanta, most recently as the parson at Highpoint Episcopal Community Church before joining Holy Innocents. She founded the Pop-Up Studio for Practicing the Pastoral Arts and leads e-retreats and creative workshops. She is also the author of Celtic Ways to Pray: Finding God in the Natural Elements, published by Church Publishing.

Ruth was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and began her professional church ministry in 1984 at Trinity Church, Columbus, GA. She has practiced her priesthood with great joy and deep devotion since her ordination. With a lifelong career as a parish priest, Ruth is deeply immersed in the everyday spirituality that meets the yearning of modern-day souls. Her work, grounded in Celtic spirituality, speaks to this yearning by stirring the imagination and offering practical initiatives to help people find God in ordinary life. She sees her daily work as an invitation to a sacramental life, partnering with people to find meaning in their daily experiences.

Ruth has a passion for scripture and is convinced of the transformative power of art. Inspired by the Book of Kells, she created a Bible study process called Illuminated Pages, where students engage in Bible art journaling.

Ruth completed the School of Celtic Consciousness with John Philip Newell and undertook a self-directed Celtic pilgrimage to the British Isles, culminating in Iona. She is an avid spiritual pilgrim, having backpacked the Camino de Santiago, joined pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Cape Coast, Ghana, led a mission to Kenya, and enjoyed a cross-country family camping trip from Georgia to Wyoming, including a visit to a family farm in Nebraska for calving season.

Ruth is married to Benno Pattison. Together, they love camping, fishing, hiking, biking, cooking, baking, singing, dancing, and having porch conversations. They share a love for their six young adult children and one grandson!
