Music

Open Minds, Full Hearts.

Welcome

David writes in the Psalms, “Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody!” Psalm 98:5; and  Paul writes to the Ephesians, “be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” Eph. 5:18-20. Music is a vital part of our spiritual journey. We invite you to join the song!

Adult Choir

The choir, supported by eight paid section leaders, rehearses at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evenings and provides strong musical leadership each week. Hymns are drawn primarily from The Hymnal 1982, though the congregation enjoys and welcomes a wide range of musical styles and traditions.

Handbells

The church’s five octaves of Schulmerich handbells have been recently refurbished, and the bell choir has experienced a remarkable resurgence during this interim period. What began as a small, hopeful effort has already grown into a lively and committed ensemble with tremendous promise. Energy is building, new ringers are stepping forward, and the group is beginning to rediscover its unique sound and ministry. There is strong enthusiasm across the parish for seeing this program continue to flourish, expand, and take its place as a joyful part of our musical life.

The Friends of Music and Arts (FOMA) series

For more than twenty years, Holy Innocents has offered a vibrant concert series featuring international, national, and local artists. In recent years, FOMA has partnered with the Ventulett Art Gallery to create a rich rhythm of nine musical or artistic offerings each year, inviting the parish and wider community into beauty, creativity, and reflection. The Friends of Music fundraises annually and invites parishioners to sponsor concerts, making this ministry a true labor of love.

As the series moves into its next chapter, there is exciting room for innovation. Better advertising, fresh programming ideas, and more intentional outreach could help these concerts reach a broader and more diverse audience. Several lay leaders with passion and resources are eager to support this growth. With thoughtful guidance from the next Director of Music, the series has significant potential to become an even more dynamic and celebrated part of Holy Innocents’ cultural life.
